Colconnar is the primary antagonist of season one Midnight, Texas. He lies in wait beneath the veil.
The Veil: a threshold that separates hell from the living realm.
When Manfred first moved to town, in an effort to solve a homicide, he reached out to a spirit and accidentally infested his home with poltergeists. In and effort to remove them, Manfred and Fiji sought to make his home inhospitable to the dead. While Fiji used spell work to cleanse Manfred's house, she unknowingly made herself a target for the demon resting beneath the veil. By becoming aware of Fiji's prowess, Colconnar desired to make Fiji his own.
Demonologie
In King James's dissertation Demonologie, he discusses how Demons are able to use their influence. King James speaks of four different ways he classifies Demons, and the multitude of way they can torment you.
1) There are Specters (ghosts) which trouble one's house, or solitary space.
One of the way Colconnar tormented Fiji was accosting her in her own home, haunting her house and manifesting himself enough to lacerate her skin. At one point, Fiji began hearing his voice everywhere she went. She never had a moment's peace.
2) Incubi and Succubi: Evil Spirits and Demons can stalk you and abuse you.
In season one, episode 4 of Midnight, Texas, a Succubus arrives in Midnight, drawn to Colconnar's power. She is a beautiful young woman who turns monstrous and devours any male unlucky enough to be caught in her thrall.
3) Possession: Evil spirits that enter inside a vessel and possess them.
Manfred had to consume a legion of evil spirits in order to summon enough strength to banish Colconnar back to hell. One of the consequences of such a feat was that the residual energy from those demonic spirits slowly drove Manfred insane.
4) Fairies were thought to be illusionary spirits that can prophesize and spirit people away.
Although there were are Fairies in Midnight, they do exist in the Midnight, Texas/ True Blood Universe. The closest creature to a fairy in midnight would be the demigod trickster Basil, who thrives on chaos and uses the same manipulative rhetoric that fairies are known for.
Throughout the first season, Colconnar uses his demonic influence.
For Colconnar to break free of the veil, he requires sacrifices. Using his growing influence, he whispers to the residents of Midnight, using their own doubt and despair as a way to tempt them into killing themselves.
Colconnar even enlists the aid of other supernatural creatures in order to obtain sacrificial bodies. Once he suceeds, Colconnar is able to escape from hell.
Colconnar's interest in Fiji is tied to her virginity. Although witches are formidable in their own right, a virgin witch is thought to be extremely powerful.
In the third Midnight, Texas novel, it is mentioned that demons enjoy having sex with witches, especially virgin witches, "If he had sex with the witch, he would gain even more power. His ambition was to establish a kingdom on earth. a place all his own."--Sylvester Ravenwing. (Night Shift, 23. 203)
Colconnar sends his wraiths after Fiji, promising that he would allow her loved ones to live if she gave herself up. In an effort to manipulate Fiji further, he sends a messenger to her in the form of her first love, Jeremy.
Colconnar is ultimately defeated when Manfred summons the spirits stored in object at Midnight Pawn and overpowers Colconnar. With the aid of these spirits, Manfred banishes Colconnar back to hell.
